Growing up on the icy plains of Manitoba, James McCann spent most of his time as a teen reading comics and playing Dungeons and Dragons. Both of these hobbies taught him storytelling tools that he now use as an author and creative writing instructor.
Unlike the creatures of the night of which he writes, he lives peacefully in the daylight with his Shih Tzu, Conan.
He published his first book in 2003 (Upon the Shoulders of Vengeance) and has since published two more, Rancour (2005) and Pyre (2007), with a fourth due out summer 2009. Rancour sold so well that a new edition will be launched for Spring 2009, and a possible comic book version is in the works.
He's worked in children’s books for seven years, five of those at Vancouver Kidsbooks. Now he works full time as an author and a workshop leader, mentoring youth in creative writing. His weekly workshops through CWC, the Creative Writing for Children Society, produces books by aspiring young writers.
